چکیده

Introduction The ability to rapidly process speech sounds is integral not only for processing other’s speech, but also auditory of one’s own which allows maintenance accuracy. Deficits in rapid have been demonstrated autistic individuals, particularly those with language impairment. We examined relation performance on a battery verbal communication measures determine aspects were associated cortical sample individuals autism. Methods Participants 57 children and adolescents (40 male 17 female) ages 5–18 who diagnosed an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Rapid was measured via magnetoencephalographic (MEG) index the quality evoked response second two differing (“Ga” / “Da”) presented succession. Verbal abilities assessed standardized clinical overall expressive receptive language, vocabulary, articulation, phonological processing. Associations between left- right-hemisphere examined. Results significantly articulation bilaterally ( r = 0.463, p 0.001 left hemisphere 0.328, 0.020 right hemisphere). In addition, 0.354, 0.013); 0.384, 0.005) vocabulary; memory 0.325, 0.024). Phonological found mediate relationship language. Discussion These results demonstrate that impaired dysfunction ASD. data indicate intact may be necessary even basic skills support production, such as articulatory control.

Auditory-Motor Processing of Speech Sounds

The motor regions that control movements of the articulators activate during listening to speech and contribute to performance in demanding speech recognition and discrimination tasks. Whether the articulatory motor cortex modulates auditory processing of speech sounds is unknown. Here, we aimed to determine whether the articulatory motor cortex affects the auditory mechanisms underlying discri...

Aggressive Behaviors and Verbal Communication Skills in Autism Spectrum Disorders

Aggressive behavior is a common problem among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and could negatively affect family functioning and school and social competence. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between aggressive behavior, such as self-aggression and other-aggression, with verbal communication ability and IQ level in children with ASD. The sample exami...

Attention fine-tunes auditory-motor processing of speech sounds.

The earliest stages of cortical processing of speech sounds take place in the auditory cortex. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) studies have provided evidence that the human articulatory motor cortex contributes also to speech processing. For example, stimulation of the motor lip representation influences specifically discrimination of lip-articulated speech sounds. However, the timing o...

Functional imaging of the auditory processing applied to speech sounds.

In this paper, we describe domain-general auditory processes that we believe are prerequisite to the linguistic analysis of speech. We discuss biological evidence for these processes and how they might relate to processes that are specific to human speech and language. We begin with a brief review of (i) the anatomy of the auditory system and (ii) the essential properties of speech sounds. Sect...
